Latvian Association of Architects (LAA)

Year Founded:

Founded in 1924 as the “Architects Society of Latvia” (ASL);

From 1945 continued activities under the name “Architects Society of Latvian SSR”;

“The Latvian Association of Architects” (LAA) established in 1989;

LAA merged with ASL in 1995.

 

Aims and Objectives:

  • Consolidate and coordinate efforts to maintain, refine and further the development of architecture within a cultural and historic environment;
  • Promote architects’ participation in cultural, economic and social activities;
  • Exercise legal rights to initiate action and influence decisions by government institutions on a comprehensive set of issues in architectural practice: education, scholarship, social security of employment in architectural activities, protection of rights, as well as the crafting of construction policies and other issues related to architectural work;
  • Popularize and explain architecture in Latvia, and the work of Latvia's architects and Latvian architects globally;
  • Distribute information and publications that promote the exchange of professional experience among architects in Latvia and abroad.
